Hyundai Motor UK Sees Continued Sales Growth
Hyundai Motor UK has continued its solid sales growth in September and over the entire third quarter of 2023, particularly in the alternatively fuelled vehicles (AFV) and electric vehicles (EV) sectors.
The latest figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders show that in September, Hyundai sold 12,385 cars, marking a 4.5% market share.
In line with Hyundai’s excellence in hybrid and electric vehicles, September sales show that 49% of cars delivered were hybrid or plug-in hybrid, alongside a 5.0% growth in EV sales when compared to September of the previous year. Throughout the third quarter, Hyundai achieved an overall 6.0% market share across the AFV segment.
Hyundai’s advanced SUV line-up – including TUCSON and SANTA FE – continued its success in September and the third quarter of 2023, with SUV sales constituting 74% of the total, capturing a 5.6% market share in the SUV segment for September. This marked a 23% surge in SUV sales compared to September 2022.
The TUCSON remains the UK’s best-selling SUV in the retail market, with 12,146 sales year-to-date. Notably, 74% of total TUCSON sales are of hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants.
"The sales figures of September and the third quarter are a testament to Hyundai UK's sustained momentum in a highly competitive market. Our dedication to offering a diverse range of eco-friendly vehicles is clearly resonating with consumers. The outstanding performance of TUCSON, in particular, underscores both the strength of our brand and our product line-up."
The diverse Hyundai Motor UK range has been acclaimed a number of times throughout 2023, including a clean sweep for the Hyundai IONIQ 6 at the World Car Awards in April, clinching the World Car of the Year, World Electric Vehicle, and World Car Design of the Year awards.
Furthermore, the IONIQ 6 received accolades as the Best Company Car at the 2023 Autocar Awards, was celebrated as the Saloon of the Year at the 2023 GQ Car Awards, and earned the title of Best EV Compact Executive Car by Fleet World at the Great British Fleet Awards.
The commendations extend beyond the IONIQ series. The All-New KONA made a notable impression, being named the Auto Express Car of the Year in early July, alongside accolades as the Small Company Car of the Year and Small SUV of the Year.
The TUCSON too received its share of recognition as the Mid-size SUV of the Year, while the New i10 was honoured as the City Car of the Year.
Earlier in the year, What Car? also bestowed accolades on Hyundai models in January, heralding the i20 N as the Hot Hatch of the Year, and appreciating the SANTA FE as the Seven-seater of the Year and Best Plug-in Hybrid for Big Families.
