A bold way to go green
The New Kia Niro Self-Charging Hybrid is made for all those who want to do their bit for the environment without compromising on power or great looks. The combination of combustion engine and electric motor makes for a fun driving experience whilst keeping emissions to a minimum.
Efficient & engaging
The Niro Hybrid employs a sophisticated parallel hybrid system, greatly reducing emissions on everyday journeys yet still offering great flexibility. Plus, it has fully-independent front and rear suspension and a slick-shifting six-speed double-clutch transmission, for the perfect balance between on-road comfort and driver engagement.
Smarter features and more space. For an enhanced drive
The fully revamped Niro cabin gets everything right - from the upscale details and finishes to the spacious dimensions and many innovative technologies designed with two things in mind: your comfort and enjoyment. This is the kind of interior even living legends feel right at home in.
Plenty of space. Endless flexibility
Inside the cabin, each Niro is built with space, comfort and crossover versatility in mind. This translates directly into ample head, shoulder and legroom for both the driver and passengers. Plus, an unusually large cargo capacity in the trunk with flexible storage space. Helping you keep your options wide open on every journey - with plenty of room and clever ways to configure it.
In terms of how you use it, a self-charging hybrid car works just like a conventional car - there is no need to plug in, simply fill up with petrol at the pumps, and off you go! So what does hybrid mean? It’s pretty simple, along with a petrol or diesel engine, hybrid cars also have an electric motor that is powered by a small battery. The aim of the electric motor is to assist the engine and occasionally drive very short distances on battery power - as opposed to driving long distances on battery power alone as a plug-in hybrid or a battery-electric vehicle would.
The battery is charged by recovering energy that would otherwise be wasted - when slowing down for example. The battery then feeds this energy to the electric motor to help with acceleration or to drive the car at low speeds. This means lower emissions, better fuel economy and more money to spend on the things you enjoy. Great!
A plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) works in a similar way to a self-charging hybrid, there is a petrol engine combined with an electric motor and a battery. In a plug-in hybrid, the battery is much larger than in a self-charging hybrid. This means the car is able to travel around 30 miles on battery power alone - more than enough for the UK average daily commute - but it can also call on the petrol engine for longer trips.
Like a self-charging hybrid, the battery can be charged whilst driving, but for the full benefit, you will need to plug in. Charging a PHEV should take less than three hours. Put this all together and you can enjoy miles of low-cost, all-electric driving while still having a petrol engine for those rare long distance trips. Perfect.
NIRO NAMED 'BEST CROSSOVER' IN UK CAR OF THE YEAR AWARDS 2023
The all-new Kia Niro has won the ‘Best Crossover’ award in the UK Car of the Year (UKCOTY) Awards 2023.
Evaluated and judged by a panel of the UK’s most well-respected and professional motoring journalists, the second-generation Niro topped the popular crossover class, one of the most competitive segments in the UK. The Niro impressed judges with its range of powertrains, striking aesthetics and impressive value for money.
UKCOTY judge Alex Grant commented: “The new Niro builds on the success of the very popular first-generation car, combining the familiar choice of electrified powertrains and spacious interior with a much-needed step up in aesthetics”.
The award jurors came to the same conclusion that the all-new Niro was a thoroughly impressive model which picks up where its revolutionary predecessor left off, albeit making great strides forward in design and refinement. Having won its category, the all-new Niro is put forward for the overall ‘UK Car of the Year 2023’ Award, which will be announced in March.
Kia Niro wins Best Family Hybrid Car at the DrivingElectric Awards
Kia has once again found success, with four models being declared class winners at the fifth annual DrivingElectric Awards with the Niro awarded ‘Best Hybrid Family Car’.
The DrivingElectric Awards celebrate the most efficient cars money can buy. Each category winner is decided by the publication’s judging panel, considering factors such as overall value for money, performance, and practicality.
The second generation of Kia Niro surpassed our expectations with its smart looks, user-friendly cabin, slick infotainment and the impressive amount of space it offered. The new Niro’s comfortable ride and regenerative braking system make it ideal for tackling UK roads, whether around town or cruising on the motorway. Hybrid power boosts fuel economy and lowers your running costs, without you needing to change the way you drive.
ALL-NEW NIRO SCOOPS AWARDS AT CARBUYER BEST CAR AWARDS 2023
The all-new Kia Niro has collected a trinity of awards at the Carbuyer Car of the Year Awards 2023, topping various categories and being decided as the publication’s overall ‘Car of the Year’.
For the third year in a row Kia has collected various accolades at the Carbuyer Best Car Awards, having previously had class wins for Ceed, Sorento, and previous-generation Niro, with the all-new model topping two classes as ‘Best Small Family Car’ and ‘Best Hybrid’, adding to its already impressive resumé of awards.
The Carbuyer Car of the Year Awards assess every car on the UK market to celebrate the best cars across several different categories, including new and used cars. The all-new Niro follows in the footsteps of Kia’s hugely successful Sorento, winning the ‘Car of the Year’ award just as the seven-seat SUV did back in 2021.
ALL-NEW KIA NIRO WINS ITS FIRST AWARD AT THE 2022 AUTO EXPRESS NEW CAR AWARDS
The all-new Kia Niro has been named ‘Small SUV of the Year’ at the annual Auto Express New Car Awards, earning its first award before customer deliveries start later this month.
The awards are decided following a lengthy and detailed judging process by the editorial team at Auto Express. The team analyse all elements of the customer proposition including, price, practicality, styling, tech, safety equipment, connectivity, powertrain efficiency and more, and how these factors measure up against the competition.
First introduced in 2016, Kia’s Niro crossover has been completely redesigned from the ground up to meet the complex and diverse needs of today’s environmentally conscious car buyers. The latest car features the same trio of state-of-the-art electrified powertrains - hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric and features an interior made from a higher proportion of sustainable and recycled materials.
There’s a powertrain to suit every customer need, with the all-new Niro Hybrid offering up to 64.2mpg and just 100g/km CO2. The all-new Niro PHEV is available with just eight per cent Benefit-in-Kind tax, which should appeal to company car drivers. And the all-new Niro EV offers up to 285-miles range (WLTP-combined).
